Jan 2013 – The benefits of Digital Printing

The Benefits of Digital Label Printing…

When it comes to custom labels we have seen a big shift in the last few years to more and more labels being produced on our digital press.

We feel the following industry changes are responsible for this…

  1. Many company logo’s and graphics are now designed first and foremost for the web.  With an infinite palette to chose from, little thought is given to how elements will transfer to print.  We continue to get more and more enquiries for custom labels that are to be produced in full colour
  2. Finer segmentation.  A full colour process ran on the flexo required 4 printing plates (aprox £ 200 total).  This leaves little room for multiple designs or ideas.  The digital process allows a significant number of variants to be printed at the same time – with no printing plate requirement.
  3. Home working.  With continued economic uncertainty and downturn, more people are looking for additional income.  Home businesses make products in smaller volumes lending to a requirement for high quality custom labels, but in low runs.

In addition to the industry shifts, the digital process brings many benefits of it’s own…

  1. Photographic quality at 1200dpi on all manner of substrates
  2. No printing plate charges
  3. Cost effective, irrespective of quantity
  4. Various finishing options including UV varnish and lamination

We tailor our service to deliver ultimate value to our customers.  We have a variety of processes and systems available to produce the label you need, be it low or high volume.

Jan 2013 - The Fine Art of Hotfoil Label Printing

The Fine Art of Hotfoil Label Printing…

Over the years we have seen many changes in field of customlabels.  The digital label printing market is growing (for many reasons – another post!) whereas more traditional processes such as hotfoil seem to be in decline.

Reel to Reel hotfoil label printing is a traditional process and a variant of hotfoil stamping or blocking.

Basically, a roll of substrate is loaded on one side of the printer and fed through to a take up rewinder.  As the material is automatically fed through it is die (or butt cutt) to size and a hot stamp presses against a foil to transfer it to the label.  There can be several colour stations and various finishing options such as lamination.

Hotfoil label printing has many advantages and disadvantages.  It would take too long to list them all (perhaps another post!) …however,

One of the best features of Hotfoil Label Printing is the finished result.  The photo below shows a recent job for Liverpool FC.  We used a gold foil on to a matt black vinyl for contrast.  The finished job applauded by the client due to the high quality a low cost.

We have a multitude of processes available to us for your custom labels so can gladly advise you of the best process for your required finish and budget.
